Welcome to the SBS Galaxy of Magic Teaching guide. This guide should give you basic examples of how to teach in each teaching role. This guide is merely a guideline, and is not exactly how things should be taught. This guide is also barebones for you to apply your own roleplay flair to!
Some areas in the guide have a mention of requesting GM or Admin assistance. This is encouraged, but do remember, they have the right to deny any request you make.
Anyways, let's get into it!

Spell Classes
Spoiler: Spellcasting Instructor
As the Art of Spellcasting Instructor, you are teaching the art of spells that are non combat, but utility based. The spells vary from launching yourself out of water and fall damage prevention, to breaking out of stuns and applying soft crowd control to afflicted targets.
- Firstly, choose a few spells to pick from before you get on the job, taking note of the color, and spell effect. This makes it easier to adapt depending on the median acuity of your class that you are teaching. For information on spells and where they come from, type !spells in game.
- You can host a vote between two spells if you want them to choose. Majority wins!
- When teaching, ask questions about the spell involving how it is used, what it does, how it looks visually, what mental acuity you need to cast, and so forth. This is where you can add your own flair of explanation.
- If you are capable of using the spell yourself, provide a demonstration and explain how it works mechanically in any situation, be it mid combat or utility outside of it.

Spoiler: Counters to Sorcery Instructor
As the Counters to Sorcery Instructor, your role is to teach spells that are purely combat related. These can vary from applying hard crowd controls like stuns, disarms, Damaging spells, and healing spells.
- Firstly, choose a few spells to pick from before you get on the job, taking note of the color, and spell effect. This makes it easier to adapt depending on the median acuity of your class that you are teaching. For information on spells and where they come from, type !spells in game.

DO NOT KILL YOUR SCHOLARS IN EXPLANATION. Report any freespelling if you teach a damaging spell and people are abusing it to staff.
- You can request a field trip to the clashing area to the west of the school area if staff are online. (subject to change when new map is out). You may also request a dueling platform from a GM or admin just outside the classroom, or a small 2v2 arena to simulate real combat.

Spoiler: Incantations Instructor
As the Incantations Instructor, your role is to teach spells that are purely fun based, movement based, or utility. These spells vary from casting water to put out flaming targets (or a heckin’ sweet 1hp kill on a target if you feel ballsy!), to launching yourself and others in the air, moving around faster, or a light to see in dark areas.

DO NOT KILL YOUR SCHOLARS IN EXPLANATION.
- If necessary, you can let the students try out their new spell or demonstrate just outside of your classroom for movement spells that need the room. If any scholars leave nearby your classroom, have the enforcers handle it.

Homework Classes
Spoiler: Shapeshifting Instructor
As the Shapeshifting Instructor, your role is to teach about the various transformations on the server. On this job, you have the ability to transform into a dog, as an example. You can also call in others with varying forms to assist you.
- I suggest looking up some form of transformation before hopping over. I recommend blending a couple sources.
- I’ll use X Men’s Mystique as an example below. Explain how the transformation occurs and how it works from your sources, and ask questions to your class.
“A mutant shapeshifter with the ability to psionically shift the formation of her biological cells at will to change her appearance and thereby assume the form of other humans and animals. She can also alter her voice to duplicate exactly that of another person. Originally, it was clearly stated that Mystique's powers were limited to appearances only; she could not assume the powers of the people she morphed into or alter her body to adapt to different situations. Additionally she could not change her overall body mass when taking on the appearance of a person larger or smaller, but due to subsequent enhancements she has stated that her body mass is not fixed and can change when she does.”
- You can request someone with a transformation to join you, and also explain how theirs works. Some transformations can be possible by different means!
- If someone mentions transgender, please try to divert the conversation as it could spark people to break rule 2. If people start spouting transphobic slurs or “2 genders”, report it to staff.
- You can request a GM or admin to use any shapeshift forms in your class if they are free and willing. Only custom job owners can use their unique shapeshifts, admins cannot use those without permission.

Spoiler: Botany Instructor
As the Botany Instructor, your goal is to teach scholars of various flora, fauna, and plant life. You can also teach about animals that affect wildlife.
- I suggest looking up some reference material.
- I’ll use an oak tree as an example below. Instruct your students of the material you have searched up, and ask questions after your lesson.
“An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus (/ˈkwɜːrkəs/; Latin "oak tree") of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 500 extant species of oaks. The common name "oak" also appears in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus (stone oaks), as well as in those of unrelated species such as Grevillea robusta (silky oaks) and the Casuarinaceae (she-oaks).”
- Do not teach of marijuana, it causes bad behavior amongst new players.
- You can request a field trip outside the school walls if staff are online, or request a GM or admin to spawn plants for you.

Spoiler: Astrology Instructor
As the Astrology Instructor, your role is to teach about the cosmos around us and how they effect us. This can vary from planets, stars, the mythology behind them and such, to astrology signs. You can also add magical flair to this, where this could be a source of magic.
- While the name may suggest you can only teach Astrology, you are more than welcome to still teach about Astronomy.
- As usual, look up some source information that seems fun to you, and instruct based off that.
- I will throw an example of Mars below.
“Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System, being larger than only Mercury. In English, Mars carries the name of the Roman god of war. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, and has a crust primarily composed of elements similar to Earth's crust, as well as a core made of iron and nickel. Mars has surface features such as impact craters, valleys, dunes, and polar ice caps. It also has two small and irregularly shaped moons, Phobos and Deimos.”

Spoiler: Ancient Magicks Instructor
As the Ancient Magics Instructor, your role is to teach about the history of magic, magics lost to time, or magics too powerful to teach in the university such as creation magics. You can also teach about the origin of your interpretation of the void, if you wish.
- With this class, think of (obviously) ancient forms of magics. These are more prevalent than you may initially think - think voodoo, Salem witches, that sort of stuff.
- Get creative! If you either don’t want to teach a “generic” ancient magic, you can even come up with your own wild magical explanations to ancient events.
- Not everything has to be based in fact. You can put a spin on ancient, unexplainable things, such as the Big Bang or the Egyptians building the pyramids, and describe how they were somehow related to magic.
- If needed, look up reference material.

Spoiler: Mythology Instructor
As the Mythology Instructor, your role is to teach about any type of mythology you wish to teach. This can vary from real mythology to interpretations of other media.
- Mythology is a very expansive subject. There's a lot to teach, finding ideas shouldn't be too difficult.
- Look up your sources before hopping over so you are ready! You are not limited to mythologies that are displayed on the server, go wild.
- If your material contains NSFW content, try to censor yourself a bit.
- You can teach Lovecraft if you want.

Extra-Curricular Classes
Spoiler: Alchemy Instructor
As the Alchemy Instructor, your role is to teach about the potions available on the server, their effects, and how to use them effectively. You may also teach people where to find each ingredient.
- Check the potions available in the potions closet in the classroom for reference material. As usual, you can look up outside sources.
- Provide explanations on how potions work, their color, effects, and such. You can demonstrate by grabbing a free potion from the closet.

Spoiler: Clashing League Instructor
As the Clashing League Instructor, your role is to host duels within the clashing area.
- You can have as many separate duels as you can handle watching.
- Make sure a scholar does not go under 20hp.
- If any new players are in your class, offer a demonstration duel with a higher acuity player.
- You may request a small arena from a GM or admin if you wish to do something different, if they are free and have a build ready.

Spoiler: Recreation Instructor
WIP for now, this class serves no function currently. If you wish to do something with this job when recreation happens, ask a GM or Admin for some sort of game to play if they are free to do so.
Lastly, here are some tips that apply to all, or most, classes:
Spoiler: General Teaching Tips
- Have an idea of what you are wanting to teach before you teach it. Source material helps, do a little reading on the subject.
- If and when possible, try to have students engage in the lesson. You can ask them questions relating to the topic, or if somebody wants to chime in with their own bit about the lesson, let them have at it!
- When it comes to students that are giving you trouble, try to maintain your cool. Request a prefect to your classroom or a staff member if absolutely need be. Getting frustrated and irritated with someone who is minging in your classroom will only fuel their minging.
