These Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions constitute a legally binding agreement made between you, whether personally or on behalf of an entity (“you”) and Star by Star Gaming ("Company", “we”, “us”, or “our”), concerning your volunteer services on any of our services and or platforms such as and not limited to, our websites, game servers, any other media form, media channel, console or PC application, mobile website or mobile application related, linked, or otherwise connected thereto. You agree that by posting this application and or responding to application question (1.) with "Yes, I do agree to these terms and conditions.", you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by all of these terms and conditions. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, THEN YOU ARE EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED FROM APPLYING FOR A VOLUNTEER STAFF POSITION AND YOU MUST DISCONTINUE YOUR APPLICATION PROCESS IMMEDIATELY.

You accept and understand that you are not any form of an employee, contractor, or agent of Star by Star Gaming. You accept and understand that the volunteer services you provide will be a donation and under no circumstances will you expect wages, salary, or benefits from Star by Star Gaming for the services provided during your time as a Volunteer Staff member. We reserve the right to remove or let go of any volunteer staff member for any reason and at any time at our sole discretion.

Any and all actions, including and not limited to, player and or user punishment, such as issued bans or otherwise on our game servers, websites, or other platforms, as well as any statements made by you, or any behavioral misconduct, does not express the views of Star by Star Gaming and are conducted at your sole discretion. You agree that all of these are of your own and you withhold full personal responsibility. Your actions, behavior, and or statements will be taken or given at your sole discretion and you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless, including our subsidiaries, affiliates, and all of our respective officers, agents, partners, contractors, volunteers, volunteer staff, and employees, from and against any loss, damage, liability, claim, or demand due to the outcomes of your gross negligence, willful misconduct, actions, statements, and or behaviors or any other conduct on your behalf, which cause or may give rise to criminal liability while performing volunteer staff services for Star by Star Gaming.

IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEER STAFF, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFIT, LOST REVENUE, LOSS OF DATA, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR VOLUNTEER SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

These Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions can and may be updated at any time without notice at our discretion, so be sure to frequently check back for any updates to these terms and conditions. An effort to inform you that they've been updated will be made, but not promised, so it's your responsibility to periodically check back. By posting this application and or responding to application question (1.) with "Yes, I do agree to these terms and conditions.", you are accepting and agreeing to these terms and conditions indefinitely regardless of any changes or amendments to these terms and conditions unless or until you are no longer a Volunteer Staff member. (1b.) What is your age? - 23

(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Staff Manager
 
(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - In February of this year was the first time I really played on the server. And the only reason me and my friends discovered the server is because I remember joining the server way back in like 2019 so we thought it would be a great idea to join and just see how the server is.
 
(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Yes I do.

(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - Well I want to be the person to try to help make the server enjoyable and make sure the staff team is happy and killing it and I believe that only happens if you put in the hours on and off the server. In saying that you may look at my activity right now and just go "God how would he even trust him to be active if he was accepted" my simple response to that is.  If given more leadership and responsibility I would take it with a great deal of pride and respect and I would make sure I'm the most active person on the server. (At the end of the day I wouldn't say anything I couldn't do)
 
(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - I just want to be the bloke that makes a difference and I've always wanted to lead from the front and make sure everyone is happy and if I'm being honest I do see myself as quite the leader and I believe the biggest thing that I have is I'm not scared to fail and I will always give things a go and always do my best in them things.  
 
(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - I like to think of myself as a funny guy who will always try to make people smile and laugh but sometimes people may see that as childish so the improvement is just trying to find a middle ground where is okay to be the funny guy but just make sure when I need to be serious I can be. 

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - I think my communication skills I don't consider my communication bad by any means I just believe there is always room for improvement.   
 
(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? - Well I just think abit of leadership is needed right on the server now and I truly believe I'm the right man for this role. And I understand if I were to be accepted for the role it wouldn't be easy at all but I'm always looking forward to a challenge myself. And lastly, as I stated before even if I didn't think I could do something I wouldn't do it.   
 
(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) -

(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) 

Patience - 9/10 - You learn quickly in this world you need to have Patience with everything you do I believe I have almost nailed the skill of the Patience skill.

Communication - 7/10 - As I said before I'm always looking to improve this skill and hopefully one day I'll be happy to say 10/10 for Communication.

Loyalty - 10/10  - It's simple I wouldn't want to break anyone's trust and the only way I do that is just to be loyal to the person or the server. 

Honesty - 9/10 - I'm just not afraid to speak up I've always honest to people I just want them to be honest to me.


(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for -

Staff members abusing - So with staff members abusing the first, I like to look at if it was reported to me by a player I would ask the player if they had any evidence if there is evidence I just talk to the staff member about it and ask why they did it and after they explained themselves you would then hand down the punishment but if they don't have evidence I like to do digging I would ask the player who reported if there was anyone else around if they say yes and they gave me names I would then ask all the people if they have any kind of evidence if not all I really can do from there is talk to the staff member about it and see if they cough up the truth. 

It would be a different story if I saw it with my own eyes, in that case, I could have a chat with the staff member right away I will always let the staff member try to explain themselves if they don't want to talk that's on them. 

Leaking from a staff member - If I found out from a player or a staff member that they know about leaked my first question is how do they know about it and if they can provide anything else about the leak if not I would have to do some really tough talks in the meetings and just see if I can get the bottom line of it because sometimes leakers can be really hard to catch because everyone wants to watch their mates back but if my tactics worked and I was certain I knew who it was they would get the chance to explain and then they would get the punishment that is necessary.

Community questions - I would answer all the questions I can if I couldn't answer the question I would always ask a person who would know and I would always get back to the person who asked the question from the start hopefully with an answer for them.

I'd love if you could go a little bit more in-depth about the different scenarios. You start off each explanation with "it's quite simple" but none of those situations are simple at all, they should be thought through and deeply investigated. Explain to us what your thought process in each situation would be, even if you decide to act the exact same way as the previous managers. It doesn't have to be extensive at all, just be a bit more clear about each one.


I know that you've been struggling with motivation to get on the server lately, same with every single other staff. Some could blame the recent resignations on the lack of motivation, which is 100% understandable. Almost everyone that often played is completely gone and it's more than justifiable. With this, I ask you: Do you really want this position? Are you willing to truly spend your time on it, or are you just applying because it seems like an easy grab since we have a dead server?


Another question aside, don't really feel obligated to answer this at all. I know that this might be way out of the Staff Manager's league, but if you could do something to improve the server what would it be?

And about your first question, I truly do want this position I'm not applying for the fun of it I want to be challenged and I want to show people what I got, And to answer the second part of that question I don't believe it's an "easy grab" because nothing is easy in this world and I was to be accepted I wouldn't take this role lightly and I would put the hours in. And I promise you I will try to make the server a good time while I do it.

And to answer the last question you have  I do think some things are out of the Staff Manager's league but not all. I suppose some of the things I could do is try to keep the people we have on the server who play daily. and also I'll always be working on the staff team because let's be honest the staff team isn't perfect but that's okay because nothing in this world is perfect.

My Comments:

While Bob is quite new to the team, he’s been able to bring an always interesting and unique flavour of what I like to call a “Caring Retardation”, he’s able to get along with each staff member due to his general humour, which while deprecating in a sense of him constantly asking someone like myself “When are you resigning”, it can be quite funny (most the time.) 

Bob never fails to make people on the team laugh, and has a nice energy about him.



My concerns lie in really this application itself, as I feel like it leaves a lot to be desired in a similar way to what Etlenor said. Some answers feel a little vague, if you were to get the Staff Manager Position, what would you specifically push to implement in order to as you say perhaps “retain players to the server” or encourage staff to get on the server and encourage roleplay? How are you going to look to solve issues such as the seemingly decreasing amount of staff on the team? What direction do you plan to take the team in? More harsh or lenient? Ease up on expectations or increase them? Etc.

Another (lesser) concern is your seemingly dismissal of general game making on the server, as you’ve said before that “It doesn’t seem as important right now as the server is kind of low pop a lot”, would you have anything to say in regards to this, as I feel there are those, like myself, who would disagree in that events can really retain players if not more than regular roleplay. 



One thing is for certain though and that is that Bob has a good hefty spirit about him, looking to make people laugh in peculiar ways. I don’t think he’d be a bad pick.

A neutral stance currently, subject to change in the next few weeks.

Out of the 3 applicants, Bob is the most engaged with the staff team out of all of them (I understand that this is harsh on Bathilda who doesn't have much accessibility to that) but there hasn't been a day in recent weeks where Bob won't be sitting in a voice channel in discord ready to speak to those who want to pop in and talk. Furthermore, Bob, unlike the other 2 applicants has a sure-fire stance that he will engage in disciplinary, as he has literally been a mod for the last 4-5 months. Seems to be that he has a real care for the server currently.

On the flip flop side of things is this application itself, as others have said it's very bare bones and for me really soils things as it fails to outline a real plan for the staff team and is quite vague in areas. As well as your inability to be at the Second meeting of the week due to timezones.

Regardless, I'll be changing my vote to a neutral to +1.

Bob was only around the team with me for about a month before my resignation. During that time, my experience with him was all positive. He was, at the time, an outsider to the team that was a wildcard to take on because he had only recently stopped minging on the server. Despite that, he formed connections on the team due to his charisma and easygoingness before his trial had even concluded. Aside from that, I gathered during my time with Bob that he is thick-skinned and lighthearted. These are incredible qualities to have as the staff manager as somebody that is dead serious can heavily damage a team's morale.

With that being said, I do have some concerns and reservations, one that's unique to you that Gina and Bathilda won't have to worry about as much due to the longevity of their SBS careers. If you are to receive the position, there will be a time when you are faced with having a difficult conversation with a staff member who has been around years longer than you and is someone who you may have looked up to recently. Because you are still newer to the team and, at least from my time with you, haven't taken many leadership opportunities, I am unsure as to whether you'd be able to do this without folding. If you have since taken up more leadership roles maybe list what you've done under the section where you discuss leadership as being one of the reasons to have you as manager.

Aside from this one concern, you elude on your app that you aren't very active now, but if you were to obtain the position you would become active again. I don't doubt that you would become incredibly active for a bit, but if you already aren't enjoying the server enough to remain active now I worry once the position of staff manager gets 'old' your engagement will drop fast as it seems your motivation comes from promotion rather than self-enjoyment (this was something we would bring up when considering admins). 

Lastly I would've maybe liked to see a bit more of a 'plan' for your app since after all you are a bit less established than the others but it's fine as it's always difficult to convey ideas on an app. 

Bob, you are a fantastic person. There's no doubt in my mind you'd be a well-liked manager, I just worry when it's time to get serious you may struggle. I think among the current applicants you are the most difficult to get a read on, a true wildcard. But hey, that's what people called me when I applied for this position, so, maybe a wildcard is what the team needs :)

+1 Bob I be really honest, I only saw you the first time and I don't know how long you've been staff. But all I know is every time I see you, you bring positive experiences. I think this might be a big leap in responsibility for you, but i guess if this is what you want then you should have the right to try and get it. I think all of the players (Except Andy Shir) believe in you, in the hopes that you can represent your role very well. I want to give you +1 anyways because you deserve it and I hope this +1 will help a fair bit. If you feel I am wrong in my judgement then I encourage you to try and comment on this post with your reasoning. I will be more than happy to hear it.
